Without milling, relaid roads do not measure up on safety
Residents in Chennai are facing issues with newly-laid roads that are of poor quality and higher than the original road level. The roads have been re-laid without proper milling, leading to sharp road margins and safety risks for vehicle-users. The road levels in some areas are 40mm to 70mm higher than before, posing a risk of vehicles skidding and falling. The lack of proper milling and poor workmanship has resulted in roads that do not last long, causing wastage of money on re-laying and milling.
Delhi HC to coaching centres: Safety of students comes first
The Delhi High Court has stated that there can be no compromise on the safety of students while dealing with petitions on regulating coaching centers in the city. The court agreed to hear the association of coaching centers seeking a review of the order directing closure of centers without a valid no-objection certificate from the fire department. The court emphasized that institutes not conforming to statutory requirements would have to be shut down. The matter has been listed for further hearing on November 23.
Kochi corp moots football training centre for students
The Kochi corporation in Kerala, India, plans to establish a football training centre for children to develop their soccer skills. The initiative is part of the golden jubilee celebrations of Kerala winning its first Santosh Trophy. Initially, the corporation will provide free coaching to around 50 students in city schools. The training facility is expected to start by the end of December and will be funded by the corporation. Licensed coaches will be hired to impart training and the students will be provided with footballs and boots.
