Jaipur: After Rajasthan Electricity Regulatory Commission allowed solar and wind projects set up under renewable energy certificate (REC) mechanism and discoms to renew power purchase agreement, 40 power producers renewed contracts that had expired in 2019. But the power producers have not got payment for the power provided beyond the agreement period starting from 2019 till 2023
Sunil Bansal, president of Rajasthan Solar Association, said, “We expected the government to share a payment roadmap after the RERC order which has not happened. Discoms should act on release of full payment of accrued arrears up to June 30, 2023, which is around Rs 250 crore. The government should clarify as to what happened to the power injected during 2019-2023 as accounting status of the same should be clarified. We have only some working days before the election code of conduct comes into effect,” added Bansal. tnn

Government bets big on solar power
Indian Oil Corporation Ltd and National Thermal Power Corporation are planning to set up two gigawatt-sized solar power plants in Karnataka. The state already has a 2,050MW capacity solar park in Tumakuru and is planning to add additional parks in Kalaburagi and Bidar. The government has identified land for the new plants and has sent a proposal to the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy seeking revenue from the generated power. However, officials say the projects have long gestation periods and it is yet to be determined if they will benefit Karnataka or only supply power to the national grid.

Germany likely to pass 50% mark for renewable power this year – minister
Germany is on track to generate over 50% of its power from renewable energy this year, but needs to increase the pace of its transition to reach its goal of 80% by 2030, according to Economy Minister Robert Habeck. He mentioned that the expansion of solar and onshore wind energy is progressing well, with the 2022 targets already achieved. However, offshore wind energy expansion is being hindered by a shortage of necessary components.
