Quality Of Life: Plan For Road Safety Mentions Safe System For Accident Free Highways | Jaipur News
Jaipur: The State Road Safety department has completed the audit for three highways identified by the state government to be made accident free, said officials on Tuesday.
The department has made an action plan for the highways which include Shahjahanpur to Ajmer (NH 48 and NH 448), Bar Bilara to Jodhpur (NH 25) and Sikar to Bikaner (NH 52 and NH 11).
To control the number of crashes and resulting fatalities in the state, in the financial Budget of 2022-23, chief minister Ashok Gehlot had announced to make these three stretches of highways accident free as a pilot project in the state.
As per the action plan, the road safety department along with other stakeholders will implement a safe systems approach, which focuses on both road engineering and non-engineering methods like removing encroachments from roads, managing wildlife on roads, and awareness campaigns.
“Safe system is an approach to road safety management, based on the principle that our life and health should not be compromised by our need to travel. Safe system is designed keeping the human being at its centre, taking human fallibility and vulnerability into account, and accepting that even the most conscientious person will make a mistake at some point. The goal of safe system is to ensure that these mistakes do not lead to a crash and if a crash does occur, it is sufficiently controlled to not cause a death or a life-changing injury,” said officials from the road safety cell.
Officials said that in this approach responsibility for the system is shared by everyone including policy makers, planners, engineers, vehicle manufacturers, fleet managers, enforcement officers, road safety educators, health agencies and the media for the system’s safety. In this system, road users are also responsible for complying with system’s rules.

Revamp for SPR stretch linking Sohna highway & Faridabad road soon
The GMDA will be conducting special repair work on the Southern Peripheral Road (SPR) in Gurgaon. The 8km stretch from Ghata to Vatika Chowk will be repaired at a cost of Rs 8.5 crore. The project will involve overlaying the main carriageway, repairing a junction, and desilting the drain. Additionally, the GMDA is considering the possibility of constructing an elevated structure between Vatika Chowk and NH-8 to improve connectivity between the Dwarka Expressway and the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway. Residents are unhappy with the slow progress of the redevelopment work on the SPR.
