Repair & recycle, urges new e-waste management policy | Jaipur News

JAIPUR: A lot of people have a habit of buying new electronic devices such as mobiles, even though their existing device is working well and they do not require new one.
Despite of that, they discard old ones without giving a single thought that it will generate e-waste. Under the new e-waste management policy, the state government has appealed to people to handle devices with care to prolong their life.

The new policy advocates upgradation of devices instead of buying new ones. If devices actually stop working, the policy encourages users to give them for recycling. As a lot of material used in production of electronic devices requires mining, the more e-waste will be generated, the more mining will be done, causing environmental loss.
All this is part of the new e-waste management policy launched in the state on Monday. Department of environment and climate change will be the nodal department and Rajasthan State Pollution Control Board (RSPCB) will be the nodal agency for implementation of the policy.
“The police will promote repair and refurbishment of end-of-life e-waste articles so as to enhance material efficiency and bring circularity in e-waste management,” said Naveen Mahajan, chairperson, RSPCB. Anyone intending to give e-waste will be able to contact multiple stakeholders for getting best price and will be able to hand it over at their doorstep. RSPCB will provide the contact details of all authorized collection centres and recyclers at its website, Mahajan said.
