Reservation: Tribal Parties Commit To 90% Quota | Jaipur News

JAIPUR: The tribal parties Bhartiya Tribal Party (BTP) and Bharatiya Adivasi Party (BAP) have promised up to 90% reservation in jobs in the tribal sub-plan areas in their manifestos. They are contesting 17 and 27 assembly seats, respectively, and have stated that they will extend reservations in the government sector and private jobs. The BTP wants the first right to the natural resources of tribal water, land and forest.
The BAP, which released its manifesto on Saturday, intends to shut down the Ved Vidhyapeeth at Gobind Guru Tribal University in Banswara as one of several strategies to draw tribal people back to their traditions.A full prohibition on English liquor, religious processions, and religious activity in schools are among the items on the list.
Vela Ram Ghogra, the BTP’s state president, said unequivocally that tribal people have first claim to tribal territory. “Our most important promise is to end the grave injustice of the current reservation scheme, which provides only 45% reservation to tribals in TSP areas.. The party is not against the development of all but its focus should be on tribal first. We will fight for our breath until it equals the percentage of our population,” Ghogra stated.
BTP MLA Chorasi Rajkumar Roat established BAP owing to disputes over support for the Congress party. He said, “Tribal needs institutes that expand our scientific temperament and centres for Vedic studies that lack logic and reasoning. Instead, we have promised to promote our language, which is the oldest of all state-specific languages, through the Bheeli Bhasha Research Centre.”
Calling on the promises of a ban on religious processions, he said that a particular political party is using such processions to spread communal hatred. “They are not welcome in the tribal areas,” said Roat.
Both parties have agreed to oppose the Honour of the Dead Body Act, which prevents the family and others from protesting with the dead body seeking the fulfilment of any demand. “Such an act has increased the vulnerabilities of the tribal people in the state. The community is facing grave injustices, and protesting with the dead body is only done to resist the injustices caused by the upper caste or business class on poor tribal people,” said Ghogra.
The promises include exemption from the Union government’s ambitions under the Uniform Civil Code (UCC). Ghogra added that the tribals follow laws that are different from the Hindu faith, and conditions like a ban on polygamy are against our culture. Also, in our case, the inheritance of property is not a division of land for the division of forest produce. This is another reason that the tribal population will vote for us to save their culture from being diluted. The state has 200 seats, including 25 seats reserved for STs.
BAP, formed two months ago, is contesting the polls for the first time. The party is being held in Dungarpur, Banswara, Udaipur, Rajsamand, Barmer, Jodhpur, Pali, and Jhalawar. While BTP contested 11 seats in the 2018 polls, won two, and stood second in another two seats. Later, they contested the municipal polls in Dungarpur in 2021 to emerge as the single largest party, defeating the Congress, and the BJP candidates spoke about the growing influence of the tribal parties in the region.
