Kota: State assembly speaker C P Joshi inaugurated the Chambal riverfront in Kota on Tuesday, said to be the largest of its kind in the country and designed around the theme of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” (the world is one family).
Featuring a spectacular 225-foot-high Chambal Mata statue made from 1,500 marble pieces imported from Vietnam, the riverfront stretches for 2.7 kilometres on both banks with 27 ghats.
Urban development and housing (UDH) minister Shanti Dhariwal, who is also MLA from Kota North, claimed it would be a role model for Smart City projects and urban development across the world.
The inauguration witnessed the presence of several cabinet ministers, more than 100 Congress MLAs and 25 diplomats representing various countries.
The riverfront has been constructed at a cost of Rs 1,442 crore.
Joshi unveiled the inaugural slab at Nayapura Bawadi ghat amid chanting of Vedic mantras, Rajasthani folk songs and dance performances by folk artistes. UDH minister Shanti Dhariwal, education minister B D Kalla, health minister Prasadi Lal Meena, agriculture minister Lalchand Kataria, higher education minister Rajendra Singh Yadav, PWD minister Bhajan Lal Jatav, cooperative minister Uday Lal Anjana, industry minister Shakuntla Rawat, woman and child development minister Mamta Bhupesh, Rajasthan Cricket Association president Vaibhav Gehlot, chairpersons of various boards and MLAs were present on the occasion.
Joshi, accompanied by ministers, MLAs, and other guests visited Fountain Ghat, Kanak Mahal, Vrindavan Ghat and Hadouti Ghat, where he paid tribute to Hada icons Pannadhay and Hadi Rani.
Joshi hoisted the national flag, visted installations of various countries on Vishvamaitri ghat, and later posed for a group photo in front of a globe that featured a collage of noted personalities of the world.
On Vishvamaitri ghat, guests delivered the message of the whole world’s oneness and the bagpiper band of the army played national tunes here. Each of the 27 ghats is characterized by special features, with statues of various incarnations of deities, while the Brahma Ghat has the world’s largest bell, the sound of which would be audible for 8 kilometres around.
Chief minister Ashok Gehlot was scheduled to inaugurate the riverfront on Tuesday morning but at the eleventh hour, at 2.28am in the night, he informed of his decision through his X account @ashokgehlot51. “I will not be able to attend the programs on September 12 due to indispensable reasons. The programs on September 13 will be as per decided,” he posted.
