RLP’s chief Hanuman Beniwal, an MP, to fight Rajasthan assembly poll | India News

JAIPUR: Rashtriya Loktantrik Party (RLP) chief and Nagaur MP Hanuman Beniwal will contest the November 25 Rajasthan polls, stoking speculation that he wants to secure an assembly seat as he fears the 2024 Lok Sabha elections might be a tough fight.
Hanuman will fight the assembly polls from the Khinvsar seat, currently represented by his younger brother Narayan from the same party.
Hanuman was on RLP’s first list of 10 candidates released on Saturday. On Thursday, RLP had announced an assembly poll alliance with the Chandrashekhar Azad-led Azad Samaj Party (Kanshi Ram). Hanuman trashed talk of a 2024 “tough fight” and said the focus now was on the state polls.
Narayan won Khinvsar in a bypoll as the seat Rashtriya Loktantrika Party (RLP) supremo and MP Hanuman Beniwal was vacated following Hanuman’s election as MP from Nagaur in 2019. BJP had not fielded a Nagaur candidate in 2019 as RLP was then an NDA ally. Hanuman had defeated Congress’s Jyoti Mirdha by over 1.8 lakh votes. Jyoti joined the saffron party recently and is fighting from Nagaur this time. In 2009, she had won the Nagaur seat by 1.5 lakh votes.
When asked if his brother Narayan will be fielded from any other assembly seat, Hanuman said, “I had won from Khinvsar assembly constituency earlier. This is an internal matter of the family. Whether he will contest from any other seat will be clear soon.” RLP sources said Narayan may be accommodated in subsequent lists.
