Rly, Jda Tussle Over Land Near Tonk Phatak | Jaipur News
Jaipur: The Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) and the North West Railway (NWR) have locked horn over a plot of unutilised land located below the Tonk Road Puliya on the Barkat Nagar side. Both the agencies are claiming these lands as their own property, and both wants to utilize the land for projects meant for ‘public benefit’.
On June 15 TOI reported that JDA had forwarded a direction to its enforcement wing to take possession of the land. Officials of the civic body had stated that despite repeated letters to the railways in the last three months the later did not responded. However, on June 15 NWR had written to JDA claiming, the land belongs to NWR.
“The land in question has been given on license to M/S Kundanmal-Mukanmal by the Railways in 1978 and a subsequent agreement was made between the two parties in 1982. Following this a court case had been filed in 2018 to recover the license fee. The case is still pending at the High Court in Jaipur. It shows that from the beginning this piece of land belongs to the railways,” the letter stated.
In the letter, addressed to the secretary of the JDA, a senior divisional engineer (HQ) of NWR had stated that JDA had encroached land of the Railways in the Bais Godam, Jagatpura and Shivdaspura area of the city. Following this during a meeting with chief secretary on January 28, 2023 it has been directed that land can be acquired only after a joint survey by both the parties.
“The land belongs to the Railways, and it is an important land earmarked for the redevelopment of the Gandhi Nagar Railway station. Therefore, it is not possible to give this land,” the letter further stated.
JDA officials stated the Tonk Road puliya was built in 1972 when Barkatullah Khan was the chief minister of Rajasthan. Prior to the rail over bridge this land was a part of the Tonk Road itself and belonged to Urban Improvement Trust. UIT later became JDA.
“Recently, in note sheet signed by the enforcement office of zone-3 it has been clearly mentioned that the land is registered in the name of JDA. So, we would continue to the process of taking control over the land. This important for free flow of traffic following the Laxmi Mandir Tiraha project and had been decided keeping in mind how traffic would increase here after the redevelopment of Gandhi Nagar railway station as well,” the JDA official added.
