HC tells govt to expedite hearings on illegal hoardings
The high court of Bombay at Goa has given the director of panchayats one month to dispose of appeals pertaining to illegal hoardings along the Mandovi river within 100 meters of the high tide line (HTL). The Penha de Franca panchayat granted permissions for the hoardings despite none from the Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA). The court questioned how the panchayat could grant such permissions. In Panaji, the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) identified 60 illegal hoardings/signage within its limits and removal notices were served, but only a few were removed. The CCP will remove all except three due to pending appeals.
