Sanganer: Over 16 Candidates, Jhotwara & Sanganer Booths To Have 2 Evms | Jaipur News

Jaipur: Voters of Jhotwara and Sanganer constituency in Jaipur district should not get puzzled if they don’t find the name of the candidate, they want to vote for, on the EVM machines at the polling booth.
For, there would be two different EVMs at all the polling booths of these two constituencies.
Following a meeting at the district collectorate office the decision was taken to deploy two EVMs at the polling booths of these constituencies.
“While Jhotwara has 19 candidates, Sanganer has 16 candidates. One EVM machine can record only 16 names (also votes). It also includes the NOTA. So, it has been decided to deploy two EVMs for these two candidates,” said a senior official managing the election for Jaipur district.
At the Sanganer constituency, the Election Commission of India (ECI) had accepted 31 applications. Among them 19 had been accepted and eight had been rejected. The rest four had been withdrawn. Congress candidate Pushpendra Bhardwaj had filed two applications and BJP candidate Bhajan Lal Sharma had filed three applications. It means, 16 candidates would lock horn in the forthcoming election.
Similarly, at the Jhotwara constituency a total of 24 applications had been filed. Although none were rejected, two applications had been withdrawn. It includes the application of the former urban development and housing minister Rajpal Singh. The rest 22 applications had been accepted. Altogether 18 candidates had filed these 22 applications, including three by BJP candidate Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore.
Electoral officials claimed that such a situation was applicable also for the Civil Lines constituency of the district. Here 18 candidates had filed 29 applications. However, with seven of them withdrawn and five got rejected, 17 applications for accepted. These 17 applications belong to 10 applicants and the final number of contestants in these constituency is now only 10.
“In the last 2018 Assembly Election Civil Lines had more than 16 candidates. ECI had to deploy two EVMs for polling booths of the constituency back then. The trend of constituency having more than 15 candidates is not rare and even not that common also,” said an official.
