Satchidanandan Gets Eighth Kanhaiyalal Poetry Award | Jaipur News

Jaipur: The eighth Kanhaiyalal Sethia poetry award was given to K Satchidanandan a modern Indian poet, critic, editor, translator, and academic from Kerala at the Jaipur Literary Festival (JLF) on Sunday.
“A former secretary of the Sahitya Akademi, Satchidanandan has authored 21 collections of poetry, 16 books of translations of world poetry and 21 works of literary criticism in Malayalam and English besides plays and travelogues. He has won 25 awards for his literary contribution from diverse institutions in India and abroad and is a fellow of the Kerala Academy of Literature,” said Sidharth Sethia, the grandson of Kanhaiyalal Sethia and a trustee of the foundation named after the poet.
Kanhaiyalal was a well-known Rajasthani and Hindi poet and is often considered as the state-poet of Rajasthan. He was born in Sujangarh, in the present Churu district. Besides being a poet, he is a freedom fighter, social worker, reformer, philanthropist and environmentalist.
Sethia’s elder son Jaiprakash Sethia was also present in the programme.
