SC Crime: 43.6% Rise In Crime Against Scs Over 5 Years, 53.6% For Sts | Jaipur News

Jaipur: There has been a steady rise in the number of crimes against SCs and STs in Rajasthan from 2017 to 2021, a ministry of social justice and empowerment data stated. There has been an increase in the number of crimes against SCs from 4,238 in 2017 to 7,524 in 2021, a rise of 43.6%. In case of STs, the increase has been from 984 in 2017 to 2121 in 2021, a rise of 53.6%, the data revealed.

The number of cases registered under crime/atrocities against SCs in 2018 was 4,607; 6,794 in 2019; and 7,017 in 2020. On the other hand, the number of cases registered under crime/atrocities against STs in 2018 was 1095; 1,797 in 2019; and 1,878 in 2020, it further mentioned. The minister of state for social justice and empowerment Ramdas Athawale gave this information while replying to an unstarred question in Rajya Sabha on August 2.
“Police and public order are state subjects under the 7th schedule to the Constitution of India. The responsibility of maintaining law and order, protecting the life and property of the citizens including SCs/STs rest with the respective state governments,” the minister said, replying to a question on details of the action taken to prevent these killings and bringing any legislation.

“The state governments are competent to deal with such offences under the provisions of law,” the minister added.
