Jaipur: The Jaipur police have arrested a cab driver who was allegedly involved in stealing tyre rims from various parts of the city Thursday.
DCP (East) Gyan Chandra Yadav said that the police arrested the accused identified as Ajay Kumar Meena.
“The accused, who works as a contractual driver in a government department, reportedly used the same cab for conducting recce to identify parked cars to steal tyre rims during the night,” Yadav said.
He said that police had learnt that several people had filed complaints about theft of their tyre rims.
“The accused is believed to have been adept at quickly stealing these tyre rims and selling them in the grey market. Investigations are underway in this case,” he said.
The city police have stated that they recovered several stolen items from the accused during the search. Additionally, they mentioned a growing demand for tyre rims in the black market, where people have been purchasing them at cheaper rates. Yadav said, “It’s possible that the accused may have been part of a gang involved in stealing and selling rims on the black market, possibly in collaboration with other suspects.”
