KOTA: A day after 17-year-old NEET aspirant Manjot Chabra was found dead with face and head covered in a polythene bag and hands tied inside his hostel room in Vigyan Nagar area on Thursday morning, the police on Friday lodged a case of murder against the deceased student’s classmate, hostel owner, it’s two managers and two other unidentified persons on the direction of city SP Sharad Choudhary.

The parents of the deceased suspected murder and demanded to lodge a case of murder.
Police on Friday afternoon lodged a case of murder and conspiracy under sections 302, 120 of IPC against 17-18 years old classmate of the deceased minor, hostel owner KS Shah, two managers, Umesh Kumar, Mukesh Sharma and two other unidentified persons, said DSP Dharmveer Singh, who was also deputed investigating officer in the case.

In the report to the police, father of deceased Manjot, Hajot Chabra, resident Rampur, UP alleged that his son was choked to death by covering his face with a plastic (bag) and tying his hands behind with a rope at his room number 411 of Basanti Residency. His classmate (name not mentioned being minor), who lived in room number 410 and was envious of his son’s excellent performance with 94% in 12th class and 613 in routine tests. He conspired with hostel owner, managers and two others to suffocate his son to death, he further alleged. The back iron net (Jaali) of the minor classmate’s room and his son’s room were broken, he mentioned in the report.
Investigation in the matter is underway. However, initially there was no evidence of the murder. Notably, the entire hostel building was under CCTV camera and the boy was last seen at 10.59 pm on Wednesday night talking for over a minute at the gate with his classmate, who stayed in room no 410. After that he went to sleep in his room and was not seen outside, nor with anyone else in the footage, the IO said.
The accused minor classmate hails from the same area in Rampur district in UP and had been studying with Manjot since early schooldays. Earlier in the day, the postmortem was conducted and the body was handed over to the family members, the IO said.
