JAIPUR: Children in the age group of 15-18 years who got their Covid jabs on the first day of the vaccination drive for teens said the shots will provide them freedom to chase their dreams.
This age group is one of the most active chunk of the population. Among those who were vaccinated on the first day were children who aspire to excel in the field of sports, many who are preparing for competitive exams and others who got vaccinated to get entry into certain places such as theatres where double dose is compulsory.
“I was so excited to get a dose. In fact, I was the first at JK Lon Hospital in the age category of 15-18 years to get vaccinated. Apart from getting a protection from Covid, the vaccination crtificate is now becoming necessary for getting entry to certain places including theatres. Earlier only 18+ vaccinated people were getting entry to such places, now we can also go to such places,” said Anjali Soni, a class 10 student and a resident of Gurjar Ki Thadi area.
She got her registration done online through CoWin portal on January 1.
Children reached in large numbers for getting doses at centres across the state on Monday. Those who got vaccinated gave different reasons for taking the shots.
Many said vaccination will provide them a shield against Covid. Children said they feared going to schools without being vaccinated. Now, the dose will give them protection and confidence.
“I have to spent hours in the cricket nets. Since other players and I were not vaccinated, there was always a fear of Covid. I will ask others to get vaccinated soon,” said 16-year-old Sumit, who wants to become a cricketer.
Saurabh Singh (16), who got vaccinated at Jawahar Nagar Sector-4 dispensary said, “My sister is a teacher. She is vaccinated. Other members in the family are also vaccinated. I was the only one who was not.”
Lakshay Jain, who has turned 15 recently, also reached to a vaccination site with his sister. “Our entire family is vaccinated now,” he said. Sarfaraz Hussain (17) said, “I am preparing for competitive exams for which I need to go for coaching. Vaccination for me is important.”
