Sms Hosp’s Basement Flooded, 15 Cancer Patients Moved Out | Jaipur News

Jaipur: Sawai Man Singh (SMS) hospital’s basement was flooded with water due to heavy rains on Monday, forcing the hospital administration to shift at least 15 patients to safer places.
Carelessness and unpreparedness of government agencies, including Public Works Department, Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC), and others responsible for maintenance of SMS Hospital and its drainage system, is one of the major reasons for the trouble caused to patients undergoing treatment in wards situated in the hospital’s basement.
The hospital had started shifting patients in the night, when it started raining heavily, and by the morning the basement was completely flooded with rainwater having entered through the drainage system. “We are using pumps to remove the water from the basement. It is a major issue we have to face every year during heavy rains. Water from places at a higher elevation, including Jawahar Nagar and Raja Park, moves towards our hospital,” said Dr Achal Sharma, medical superintendent.
