Special Court: Man Gets 20-year Jail For Sexually Assaulting 7-year-old Girl |
Jaipur: A special court dealing with Pocso cases convicted a man and awarded 20 years of jail for sexually assaulting a 7-year-old girl. The court also imposed a cash penalty of Rs 11,000 on the convicted man. The judgement came almost 15 months after the incident occurred.
TOI got a copy of the court order on Thursday in which the court in its order pronounced on September 15 that there was no contradiction in the statements of the victim, and she had identified the accused in the identification parade.
“No person would want to put the dignity of his 7-year-old old girl at stake. So, it becomes very difficult to decide whether to file a report in a case of sexual violence. As the case has been filed in this situation the possibility of falsely implicating the accused does not appear from the circumstance,” the court said in its observation.
Rajesh Sheoran, the special public prosecutor told the court that on June 16, 2022, the 7-year-old girl had gone to SMS Hospital with her parents and brother to get her grandfather checked. “The girl’s father left the mother and two children in the waiting area of SMS Hospital while he went to Malviya Nagar with his father. The girl went to the hospital washroom when Gopal Lal Sharma followed her and sexually assaulted her. The girl screamed and ran away. She informed her mother about the incident,” Sheoran added. Later, an FIR was lodged at the SMS police station. Police arrested the accused and submitted a charge-sheet in the court.
