Cops, Intel Wing Bust 4 Fake Call Centres In City, Arrest 40 | Jaipur News

JAIPUR: A joint operation of the city police and the intelligence wing of Rajasthan Police busted four fake call centres and arrested 40 people involved in an online cheating racket that targeted elderly US citizens.
ADGP (Intelligence) S Sengathir said the accused used intimidation tactics to extort money from their victims. The intelligence division has come across crucial information about the suspected network of the illegal call centres in Jaipur, he said.
The city police were informed about these call centres, and a crackdown was launched on Thursday, said Sengathir. “These call centres primarily focused on exploiting vulnerable elderly individuals residing in the United States. The accused impersonated officials from US tax authorities or the social security department to frighten and manipulate their victims,” he said.
By threatening to implicate their victims in illegal activities, the scammers forced scared US citizens into paying them hefty amounts, said officials.
“These fraudulent call centres had been operating in different areas of Jaipur for several years,” said Additional Commissioner of Jaipur Police (Crime) Kailash Chandra Bishnoi. The accused used multiple tactics, including sending fake legal notices to threaten their unsuspecting targets. Police have seized electronic items and examining them, he added.
