Spurious Ghee: Spurious Ghee Racket Busted In City, 1 Arrested | Jaipur News

Jaipur: Ahead of the festive season, the city police on Sunday organised a crackdown on spurious ghee racket in two separate locations and arrested one person. Police teams confiscated over a thousand packets, tins and jars with counterfeit labels of leading dairy companies. Head constable Chandra Pal received intel regarding a large workshop on Sansar Chandra Road under the Jalupura police station area that was producing and stockpiling counterfeit ghee.

Police conducted a raid at the location and discovered 94 packets of ghee bearing logo of a prominent dairy company within the state. They also found counterfeit ghee packed in 720 packets of another well-known brand. In addition to the ghee, counterfeit stamps and seals were also recovered during the operation. During the raid, the police arrested an accused idenitfied as Vishnu Kumar. Following interrogation, the accused led the authorities to another similar operation being conducted by his brother-in-law in Chaksu.
Subsequently, police teams were dispatched to Chaksu where they seized machinery used in the production of fake ghee, packaging materials with labels of various brands, and ghee stored in various buckets.

The fake ghee was being produced using toxic chemicals that could potentially result in health problems.
“The accused is a member of a notorious gang that has been engaged in manufacturing counterfeit ghee. This gang, with the help of other criminals, is engaged in distributing fake ghee not only in Rajasthan but also in other states,” stated an official.
Police said they also took the help of an expert from the cooperatives department to assess the genuineness of the ghee. The expert confirmed that the confiscated ghee was, in fact, fake.
The city police also stated that they are currently interrogating the suspect to ascertain the precise volume of fake ghee that was manufactured and subsequently sold in the market.
