Strikes: Many Hosps In City Wait For Police Check-posts | Jaipur News
JAIPUR: The state government had announced police check-posts (chowkis) in city hospitals, but many hospitals are still waiting for such facility.
The clashes between doctors and attendants of patients in the past often led to strike by doctors. Therefore, police check-posts could play a vital role in checking such incidents. The Centre has on multiple occasions, through formal communications with states and UTs, had highlighted the need to ensure safety and security of healthcare workers at their living/working premises.
“A few months ago, the police officials came to our hospital and asked us to identify a place for setting up a police chowki, but they never came back,” said Dr Govardhan Meena, medical superintendent, SR Goyal Government Hospital in Sethi Colony.
In the Sethi Colony hospital, the administration has identified a place for police check-post.
Besides, government-run psychiatric centre in Adarsh Nagar, site for police chowki has been identified. “We have identified two locations. The inspection of the hospital has already been done by the police some time ago, but no progress is seen yet,” said Dr Lalit Batra, superintendent, psychiatry centre at Adarsh Nagar runs under SMS Medical College.
Dr Batra said, “Apart from the other sort of crimes, we need police help when patients go missing. In such cases, we have to file an immediate police report to find the patient.”
In Zenana Hospital and Mahila Chikitsalaya, post Covid pandemic, there were policemen deployed in the hospital. But they have been removed now. “When we need police help, we have to call the police station and wait for them,” said an official.
In Gangori Hospital, a police chowki is functional. “Whenever, we need police help, it is available within the premises of the hospital,” said Dr Leeneshwar Harshvardhan, medical superintendent of Gangori Hospital.
“In the absence of police post, doctors, nursing officers and patients all remain insecure. Patients also face inconvenience in medico-legal cases,” said Ramesh Saini , State Nurses Union Leader posted at Zanana hosptial.

7-8 patients die daily in Kolhapur hospital
Data from the Chhatrapati Pramila Raje Hospital in Kolhapur reveals that an average of seven to eight patients die at the hospital every day. In September alone, 228 patients died, including 29 newborns. Doctors attribute the high mortality rate among newborns to premature delivery and weak immune systems. Of the 228 deaths, 65 occurred within 24 hours of admission and 163 within 48 hours. The hospital dean stated that most of the deceased patients were terminally ill, accident victims, or elderly patients with organ dysfunction, and that no deaths occurred in the general ward.
