Sujangarh, Khuchaman City & Malpura declared as 3 new dists

JAIPUR: CM Ashok Gehlot on Friday announced creation of three more new districts in the state – Sujangarh, Khuchaman City and Malpura -, taking the total number of districts to 53 in the state. The move comes two months after 17 new districts were created, including the carving of Jaipur and Jodhpur into two districts each.
Making the announcement on X, Gehlot said this was being done following the recommendation of a high-level committee and due to public demand.
“Problems such as demarcation, etc., will be resolved as per the recommendations of the high-level committee,” he said. Sources confirmed the decision and said that an announcement to the effect will be made soon. The demarcation of territories will be done later. Among the three, Sujangarh has been on the boil since new districts were announced in the 2023 Budget in March.
Local people had formed the Sujangarh Vikas Samiti and staged a series of protests, demanding a separate district. They had blocked both state and national highways and stopped the protest only after the CM gave them assurance of considering their demand by June.
Sujangarh is a reserved SC seat which became vacant after the death of five-time Congress MLA Bhanwarlal Meghwal. His son, Manoj Meghwal, won the bypolls in 2021.
Khuchaman, which was part of Deedwana-Khuchaman district declared in August this year, has been made a separate district.
Malpura as new district a surprise
Jaipur: The 40km distance between the two twin cities is one of the main reasons behind separating the two. The local populace in Khuchaman had demanded setting up a majority of district offices in Khuchaman as it was larger in size than Deedwana.
Malpura as a new district came as a surprise. “There was no major social movement for the Malpura tehsil in Tonk to become a district,”said a source.
