Jaipur: In an unusual case, doctors found five metal clips from a patient’s gallbladder who was suffering from pain for past five years.
The patient had undergone surgery in 2018 for removal of stones in gallbladder in a hospital where the doctors who performed the surgery in 2018 left five clips used in surgery inside the gallbladder as he removed the organ partially. They did not remove the gallbladder completely.
As the pain aggravated, the patient reached government-run Sawai Man Singh (SMS) Hospital for the treatment.
“When we removed the leftover portion of gallbladder, we discovered five metallic clips and a small stone of about six mm from inside the gallbladder. This was the first time I found clips inside a gallbladder. This is the first such case in my knowledge. The literature shows that seven cases have been reported of clips being found from inside bile duct. I have performed more than 20,000 gallbladder removal cases, but never seen such a case,” said Dr Jeevan Kankaria, senior professor (surgery), government-run SMS Hospital.
