E-rickshaw zone demarcation in Jaipur likely to take few more days | Jaipur News
JAIPUR: The process of segregating e-rickshaws in Jaipur into 11 different zones may take a few more days as there are problems with allotment of these vehicles. Members of the panel claimed no exact figure is available on the specific number of e-rickshaws belonging to each zone and even the actual number of such vehicles plying in the city.
“In the last meeting of the committee held at the RTO office on March 13, no decisions were finalised. The associations has been instructed to submit an updated list of how many e-rickshaws are available at each of these 11 zones,” said Narendrapal Singh, president of e-rickshaw association and a member of the committee.
A few months ago, the transport department had formed this member committee. It comprises three members from the transport department, two from each of the two civic bodies, two members of the associations, DCP traffic of Jaipur commissionerate and one representative from Jaipur Metro Rail Corporation.
Members had claimed that since e-rickshaws are rented out to multiple owners, a vehicle registered at an address in Kishanpole may be presently in possession of an owner in Malviya Nagar. Now, this list is not available with the transport department as the department has only the list with registered address.
“Hence, the association had been asked to prepare an updated list containing address of the present owners. However, they have not handed it over yet,” said a member, who did now wanted to be quoted.
On the other hand, two members representing the associations had demanded that the government introduce a scrap policy. They claimed that only a scrap policy can put unfit e-rickshaws off the road and can also give a perfect estimate of the number of e-rickshaws plying on Jaipur roads at present.
“It’s an assumption that around 2,000-3,000 of the 30,000 odd e-rickshaws registered e-rickshaws had got scrapped. But that is not official as the government don’t have scrap policy and officially don’t update the list of scrapped e-rickshaws. If the scrap policy is introduced more than 6,000 e-rickshaws would go off the road,” added Singh.
A transport official said that the government is thinking about the demand for introducing a scrap policy.
