Rajasthan: Aadhaar Pay System For 84% Nrega Labourers | Jaipur News

Jaipur: Of 1.36 crore active MGNREGA workers in the state, 83.5% (as on August 6) have been linked to the Aadhaar-based payment system (ABPS) so far by connecting their bank accounts with Aadhaar numbers. However, according to an official, there is reluctance among a huge number of workers to give their Aadhar details.

The districts with lowest ABPS enablement status are Jaisalmer (74.7%), Ajmer (75.2%), Pratapgarh (76.4%), Udaipur (77.2%), Sirohi (78.2%) and Barmer (79.2%). The districts with highest ABPS enablement status are Jaipur (92.9%), Dholpur (92.3%), Sikar (92.3%), Jhalawar (92%) and Kota (90.5%). The government of India has extended the deadline for mandatory payments of MGNREGS via ABPS to August 31.
“In some cases, people have moved to other states for work. In fact, out of 1.36 crore active workers, all are not active this year. Some may have been active in the previous two years. That’s why many didn’t get their bank accounts linked with Aadhar numbers,” said an official of the state’s rural development department.

“On the other hand, in many cases, the bank accounts of the workers have been closed. In such cases, the public representatives of the gram panchayats try to motivate these workers to approach their banks to open their accounts and get them linked with their Aadhar numbers. We also ask the panchayats to create awareness among these workers to link their Aadhar numbers with their bank accounts,” the official said.
