Teenager Forced To Quit Studies By Community Panchs, Seeks Sp Help | Jaipur News

Jaisalmer: A 18-year-old girl in Barmer has alleged that she was being pressurized by her community panchayat to quit studies and get married to her fiancé.
The girl wants to study further, but the fiancé’s family disapproves of it. The girl’s family alleged that the community panchs were threatening to boycott them.
The girl and her parents went to the police station, but the case was not registered upon which they met the Barmer SP for on Monday.
SP directed Gudamalani police to investigate the case.
The incident took place in Tabo ka Dhora in Barmer district.
Kanaram gave the complaint to the SP saying that his daughter Suraj Kumari (18) is studying in BA first year.
Around 4-5 years ago, his relatives got Kumari engaged to an addict Paragaram (30), a resident of Dedavas Jagir, against his wish.
The girl’s family alleged that despite refusing many times, the relatives wanted to forcefully get Kumari married. His entire family wants her to study further and does not want to get her married.
Over the last 1-2 months, the panch of the community and her fiance’s family are building pressure on them for marriage and giving threats to boycott them from the community and imposing a penalty of Rs 15 lakh. tnn
