Terror error: Raj cops still clueless where their probe faltered | Jaipur News

Fifteen years after eight serial explosions killed 80 persons and wounded over 170, there are growing concerns about counter-terrorism measures and investigations.
Rajasthan police had constituted the anti-terrorism squad (ATS) to coordinate with other counter-terrorism agencies. However, the HC’s decision to acquit all four convicts showed poor evidence collection.
The investigators fouled up in organising a test identification parade (TIP) which was also pointed out by the high court.
While the National Investigation Agency (NIA) now tends to probe all terrorism cases, the state agencies still have to learn a lot.
“That (2008) was the state police’s first encounter with a terrorism case. We have come a long way since then, including surveillance,” an official said.
But the question remains how safe is Jaipur? Nearly 10,000 CCTVs were proposed to be installed in the city but not even half of that figure has been achieved.
The city is one of the major tourist spots in the country, making it vulnerable to emerging security challenges. “We have a security protocol in place. The dedicated quick reaction team (QRT) was formed to respond to any untoward situation, we also have a dedicated command and control room now,” the official said.
It has now been 15 years and cops also need to see what led to such an utter failure in the terror case.
