Fashion, Pleasant Weather Add Fervor To Lgbtq’s Pride Walk | Jaipur News

JAIPUR: Drumbeats, flashy costumes and pleasant weather made ‘Queer Gulabi Pride’ walk a fun-filled and exciting event in the city on Sunday, in which members of LGBTQ community participated from Shahid Smarak to Albert Hall via MI Road with a message of ‘acceptance and inclusiveness’ in the society.
“I have come from Delhi, and it is for the first time I am taking part in a pride walk. I am so excited and enjoyed it a lot,” said Ram, who came from Delhi to take part in the event.
It was the fifth time a pride walk was organised in the city, which started in 2015. However, it discontinued due to Covid-19, and it has now been organised again in the city after a gap of three years.
“It is the occasion when we have gathered from different parts of the country including Delhi, Madhya Pradesh and other states,” said Mehar, who belongs to Delhi, but has been living in Jaipur for the past few years.
Till late in the evening, LGBTQ members danced to the beats of Bollywood songs amid pleasant winds blowing as drizzles kept drenching them.
“We want to give a message from pride walk to the society that we are part of the society, and we should be accepted without any bias and prejudices. We want equal rights, equal dignity, equal acceptance, equal honour, like other sections of the society. Not only in India but in other parts of the world, we are struggling to get our own identity and acceptance. However, in India, the situation is changing, and the mindset of the people is changing towards LGBTQ,” said Pushpa, member, Rajasthan transgender welfare board and founder of Nai Bhor Sanstha, which organized the event.
