Jaipur: Expressing displeasure over traffic jam in the heart of the city during the BJP rally held on Tuesday, a division Bench of the Rajasthan High Court on Thursday pulled up the Jaipur Police saying that the officials were ignorant of its orders about allowing protests and rallies in the city.

The court directed the government to appoint a senior officer as the nodal officer so that he should issue circulars as per the court orders. These circulars should be with the responsible police officers before he could give permission for rallies and dharna.
The high court had earlier issued orders banning political protests on the Janpath Road where the secretariat and high court are located. The court said during the hearing that “it is not our job to regulate the traffic of the city. But, if the public is put to risk, then the court will have to intervene.”

On Wednesday, a single Bench of Justice Sameer Jain had referred the matter to the division bench for contempt action while taking suo motu cognisance in the matter and sought a reply on Thursday. The senior police officers were summoned in court. The court on Thursday gave time till August 21 to reply.
