Two drivers rape 19-year-old Dalit passenger in packed bus | Jaipur News
JAIPUR: Two drivers of a private bus raped a 19-year-old Dalit passenger travelling to Jaipur from Kanpur in UP, even as the vehicle was packed with passengers.
Jaipur police have arrested one of the drivers, Arif Khan (22), and sent teams to several cities to trace the co-driver, Lalit Kumar (24). ACP Phool Chandra Meena said the crime took place on the intervening night of December 9-10 in Kanota police station area.
The survivor was coming to Jaipur to meet her uncle, who had assured her of a job in the city. “She was asked by the accused to sleep on a berth inside the driver’s cabin, which they locked from the inside,” Meena said.
According to police, the accused increased the volume of the music playing in the bus, so that other passengers could not hear the woman’s screams.
“When the bus was passing through the Kanota police station area, some passengers had a suspicion that something was amiss. They raised an alarm and forced the bus to be stopped near a petrol pump. There was a brief scuffle, following which a police vehicle came to the spot and took one of the accused to the police station,” Meena said, adding that the second driver managed to flee. He is yet to be tracked. In another incident, the Jaipur police Friday arrested a 32-year-old man, who had raped an 11-year-old girl playing in a park late Thursday. Ramnagariya SHO Arun Choudhary said the accused, Jitendra Banjara, who did odd jobs, lured the minor around 10.30 pm.
Finding her missing, locals launched a search and alerted police. The accused has been booked for rape under IPC and Pocso Act provisions.
