Udaipur Tailor: Bail Granted To Man Arrested By Nia In Kanhaiya Lal Case | Jaipur News

Jaipur: A special court hearing National Investigation Agency (NIA) cases on Friday granted bail to one of the nine people arrested in the Udaipur tailor Kanhaiya Lal beheading case.
While granting bail to Farhad Mohammad Sheikh alias Babla, the court noted in its order that he had been charged under the provisions of the Arms Act, and no chargesheet was filed against him under the sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
Defence counsel Akhil Chaudhary said Sheikh operated a chicken shop and worked as an artisan, specialising in decorating swords sold as showpieces. “NIA arrested Sheikh and recovered a sword from his house. It was a blunt sword, and NIA charge-sheeted him under the Arms Act. He had no involvement in the murder,” he added.
The court order further noted that the prosecution did not mention the use of the sword in the murder or any kind of injury. The order also said the investigation officer (IO) of the case did not submit any chargesheet about Sheikh’s involvement in any other offence or conspiracy.
NIA had submitted a chargesheet in the court in December last, implicating 11 suspects, including two Pakistani nationals who remain at large, in the beheading of Kanhaiya Lal in Udaipur on June 28, 2022
Kanhaiya, 48, was in his tailor shop in Udaipur when Gaus Mohammad and Mohammad Riyaz walked in, masquerading as customers, and beheaded him with a cleaver. In a video the duo released hours before their arrest, they claimed that they killed Kanhaiya for one of his social media posts supporting suspended BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma, who was accused of making remarks denigrating Prophet Mohammed.
The initial FIR was filed at Dhanmandi police station in Udaipur before NIA subsequently registered a separate case on June 29, 2022. NIA termed the murder as a “terror act” inspired by “incriminating” audio, video and other messages circulated within and from outside the country.
