‘Unacceptable’: Gehlot on Modi’s ‘terrorist’ remark at Udaipur rally | Jaipur News

JAIPUR: CM Ashok Gehlot on Friday slammed as “misinformed” and “unacceptable” PM Narendra Modi’s remark about Udaipur tailor Kanhaiya Lal‘s beheading being a consequence of the Congress government allegedly sympathising with terrorists.
Making “a humble request” to Modi not to create an environment detrimental to the country’s interest”, Gehlot said the onus was on the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to disclose the progress of the probe into the murder.
‘Political battle should be limited to ideology, policies & civic issues’
“We arrested the accused within a few hours; still the NIA took over the investigation. We did not object as the accused could be part of an international conspiracy,” the Congress veteran said.
Modi had termed Kanhaiya Lal’s killing “a big stain” on the state government. Gehlot, who is seeking a second consecutive term in the November 23 election, said a political battle should be limited to ideology, policies and civic issues, but BJP was making it personal and divisive. “You people are making non-issues into issues. You are provoking people like this in the name of religion,” he alleged.
“I did not expect this language from PM Narendra Modi ji. I believe that either he was wrongly briefed, or he got nervous (about Congress’s position in Rajasthan) and deliberately uttered this phrase (sympathising with terrorists). I believe that’s the case.”
Gehlot said the wind was blowing in Congress’s favour in the desert state, with the state government’s welfare schemes being discussed nationwide.
