Urine: Cops Rebut Allegations Of Urination On Dalit Man, Claims About Mla | Jaipur News
The police statement was issued in response to a press conference held in New Delhi on Thursday about an FIR that was lodged at Jamwa-Ramgarh police station in Jaipur district on July 27. In the FIR, filed through a court complaint, one Raju Prasad Nayak, 51, claimed that he was abducted while working on a farm by five police officers on June 30 and that the cops took him to local Congress MLA Gopal Meena’s residence. Nayak alleged he was assaulted there, and one police officer urinated on him before forcing him to lick the MLA’s shoes.
The police press statement, however, said it was a fake FIR lodged at the behest of retired IPS officer Navdeep Singh. Meena too rejected the accusations and said the complainant was an employee of Singh’s.
“Singh has been involved in a land conflict with local residents from tribal and Dalit communities at Todalari village. In his bid to displace them from the land, Singh used his influence and called the patwari of a different area to initiate land demarcation. He also tried to put pressure on police, but the officials did not succumb to his influence, considering legal implications and law and order apprehensions,” said the police statement.
According to the statement, first a case was lodged by the locals against Singh and others under the SC/ST Act on July 1. “Its probe was assigned to DSP SK Bhardwaj, but Singh tried to pressurise police into quickly submitting a closure report,” it said.
When contacted, Singh denied the allegations and said the land was acquired with due process and that local officers were blocking the land’s demarcation by violating regulations with malicious intent. “Local officers were under the MLA’s influence. Despite the demarcation being scheduled for June 30, it was not executed as the officers failed to show up and instead visited the MLA’s residence to seek his instructions,” Singh claimed. When asked about the FIR lodged by Nayak on July 27, Singh said he had no involvement with or connection to the case.
The PHQ, however, claimed there was a “conspiracy” hatched to draw the media’s attention and put pressure on police with the aim to take control of the contested land. It said the ex-IPS faces multiple criminal cases and has been arrested earlier, including once where he allegedly beat his driver during an official trip. “The locals are aware of Singh’s reputation. Maybe that is why he held a presserin Delhi, instead of in Jaipur,” it added.
