JAIPUR: After the release of the second list of Congress candidates, both BJP and Congress have announced candidates in 43 constituencies. Some of these constituencies are set to witness fierce fights.

Rajasthan polls

For Nimbahera seat in Chittorgarh, former BJP minister Shrichand Kriplani is taking on current minister Udailal Anjana. Both have represented the seat thrice. Anjana was elected MLA from the seat in 1993, 2008, and 2018, and became a minister in the Ashok Gehlot cabinet. Kriplani represented the seat in 1990, 1998 and 2013 and became a minister when Vasundhara Raje was CM.
This seat has the distinction of having been represented by former chief minister Bhairon Singh Shekhawat, who contested from here in 1985 and won.
It is two bureaucrats fighting it out for the Bassi seat in Jaipur. The Congress has given the ticket to former IPS and independent MLA Laxman Meena, while the BJP has fielded former IAS Chandra Mohan Meena.
In the Salumbar seat, former minister Raghuveer Singh Meena is pitted against his traditional rival, BJP’s Amrit Lal Meena. It is a do-or-die battle for Raghuveer Meena who suffered two successive defeats in the past. Amrit Lal defeated Raghuveer in 2018 while Raghuveer’s wife Basanti contested as Congress candidate in 2013 and was soundly defeated by the BJP candidate.
While Amrit Lal Meena has represented the seat twice, Raghuveer also won the seat in 2008 when his traditional seat Sarada merged with Salumbar. Now, Congress has carved out Salumbar as a new district and Raghuveer Meena hopes to cash in on this “achievement”.

Meena family feud, tribal first calls to matter big in Pratapgarh
Electoral politics in Pratapgarh assembly constituency has revolved around the Meena family for the past 40 years. Former BJP legislator Nandlal Meena lost to his cousin Ramlal Meena of the Congress in 2018. Nandlal accuses Ramlal of betrayal, but Ramlal claims that the dispute arose when Nandlal pushed his son for the assembly elections. Ramlal joined the NPP party and later won the seat from the Congress in 2018. The by-poll saw the emergence of tribal-centric politics, with a candidate promising a separate Bhil Pradesh state. As the November 25 polls approach, the district’s political landscape is changing with the Tribal First campaign gaining momentum. BJP and Congress have yet to address this growing ideology.
BJP-JD(S) to miss seat-sharing deadline
The BJP-JD(S) alliance in Karnataka is likely to miss its self-imposed deadline for finalizing seat-sharing for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. While the alliance was announced last month, there have been no talks between the two parties yet. Some senior BJP functionaries admit they have no clue when discussions will take place, while JD(S) functionaries claim that party leaders are in touch with the BJP high command. The JD(S) leadership wants the BJP to address concerns within its state unit before proceeding with other details.
