Virat Kohli: Watch: Virat Kohli awarded ‘fielder of the match’ amidst World Cup final loss | Cricket News

NEW DELHI: Despite India falling short of the World Cup title at the Narendra Modi Stadium, star batsman Virat Kohli was honoured with the ‘Fielder of the Match‘ award for his outstanding contributions on the field.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) shared a video encapsulating India’s World Cup journey, highlighting Kohli’s exceptional fielding efforts.
India’s fielding coach, T Dilip, presented the award to Kohli, recognizing not only his prowess with the bat but also his sensational presence on the field. Kohli’s aggressive fielding style, enthusiastic celebrations for wickets, and determination to prevent boundaries showcased his leadership and commitment.
In the video posted by the BCCI, Dilip praised Kohli, stating, “He’s been a terrific player. He sets himself up great standards, and every time he goes on the field, he does magic. The best part is that he not only does his job so well, but his actions inspire so many people, and it is none other than Virat Kohli.”

Dilip also delivered an inspirational speech to uplift the spirits of the players, emphasising the pride they should feel despite ending up on the losing side. “Guys, I know it is tough, and we all feel the pain, but that’s what it is. We did everything possibly right, and still, the result is not in our favour. But I think as Rahul (Dravid) bhai said we can all be proud of ourselves,” Dilip added.
In the World Cup final, India posted a score of 240 in 50 overs, with notable contributions from Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and KL Rahul. Mitchell Starc was the standout bowler for Australia, securing three wickets. In the chase, Australia faced early pressure at 47/3, but Travis Head‘s spectacular innings of 137 and Marnus Labuschagne’s steady knock guided Australia to a six-wicket win.
Despite the World Cup loss, both teams are set to compete in a five-match T20I series, commencing on Thursday in Visakhapatnam.
