Waste Management: Jmc Seizes Vehicles Of Pvt Waste Mgmt Co, Plaint Filed | Jaipur News
“We had been offering private waste management services in Jaipur for years, but for reasons unknown, JMC officials had seized our vehicles on Thursday evening. They did not give us a seizure list, nor did they state any official reason behind such an act. All our trade and vehicle related documents are clear,” said Siddhant Agarwal, the owner of the company, adding, “When we tried to question the act the concerned official had threatened legal action against us. He stated that he would file a case against us for preventing a government employee from performing his duty.”
JMC-Greater officials had stated that such steps had been taken following instructions from mayor Somya Gurjar. An official, who did not wish to be quoted, disclosed that the mayor went for an inspection on Wednesday in localities opposite to World Trade Park in Malviya Nagar. At that time, she spotted a vehicle of a private agency and came to know that these agencies also offer waste management services taking payment from their clients. “Following this the mayor instructed us to take the action,” an official disclosed.
When TOI contacted mayor Somya Gurjar, she did not respond.
Deputy mayor Puneet Karnawat however said that he is well aware of the incident and is trying to sort out the issue. “Both the civic body and the private operators are keeping the city clean. I do not see any harm if these private operators provide services. It would help in keeping the city clean and also it would help to generate employment and income,” he added.
Such steps of JMC-Greater had created panic among other such private waste management companies in the city and their clients. Such waste management companies provide a complete package for waste management in big restaurants, cafeterias, private offices and residential complexes in the city.
Officials said they collect door-to-door waste from individual flats in residential complexes and kitchens of the eateries and offices. Then they segregate this waste and sell the biodegradable waste to farmers and send the non-degradable waste to their individual plants for processing. They offer a charge of Rs 1,500 per month from the eateries and Rs 2,500 per month for every 200 flats in residential complexes.
“Since these waste management companies provide a complete solution, we have hired them to ensure hygiene and cleanliness in our eatery. Now that JMC has started a drive, my eatery is in a mess. The company could not collect waste for the last two days,” said Anish Chaudhury, owner of a restaurant in Malviya Nagar.
Restaurant owners and members of RWAs in the city had stated that the decision is quite shocking.
