Water: Demanding Water From Punjab, Farmers Block Nh | Jaipur News

Jaipur: Demanding water for irrigation of crops from the Punjab government, farmers’ associations in Sriganganagar jointly organised a blockade of national highway 62 at Saduwali check post on the Punjab-Rajasthan border on Sunday afternoon.
Members of the associations claimed that the Punjab water resources department was not releasing water to Rajasthan through the Ganga canal, leading to severe scarcity of water in the farmlands of Sri Ganganagar district.
“There are huge fields in Sri Ganganagar that yield cotton, paddy and sugarcane. We need a lot of water for irrigation and also to farm vegetables. Crops are dying due to lack of water,” said Subhash Chandra Sehgal, spokesperson of the kisan sangharsh samiti in Sri Ganganagar.
Farmers also met the district collector of Sri Ganganagar following the agitation and requested him to take up the issue with counterparts in Punjab.
