Water: Punjab Cm’s Effigy Burnt In Water Row | Jaipur News

Jaipur: Protesting against the Punjab government for not releasing water in the Ganga canal, farmers’ associations in Sriganganagar on Wednesday burnt effigies of Punjab chief minister Bhagwat Mann.
The associations also selected a few senior members to start a hunger strike from Wednesday.
“Our protest would continue till Punjab doesn’t send Rajasthan’s quota of 2,800 cusecs of water daily into the Ganga canal as mentioned in a pre-Independence agreement. Crops in the district are getting damaged with every passing day,” said Amar Singh Bishnoi, a farmers’ leader.
With Punjab releasing 1,000 cusecs of water to Rajasthan on Sunday night, the problem of drinking water got solved to some extent on Wednesday. PHED officials stated that drinking water supply in the district would remain normal on Thursday. On Wednesday, the urban areas of the district reeled under water crisis as PHED decided to cut down the drinking water supply.
