Hours Before Ipl Kicked Off In Jaipur, Sports Min Locked Gate Of Vip Stands | Jaipur News
JAIPUR: There was high drama at Sawai Man Singh (SMS) stadium here on Wednesday just a few hours before the first IPL match of Rajasthan Royals on home ground after sports minister Ashok Chandna locked the gate of Rajasthan State Sports Council (RSSC), which was the entry for the VIP stands.
After the minister’s action, pandemonium ensued outside the stadium as nearly 1,000 pass-holders were denied entry for the IPL match, which was organised in the city after a gap of three years.
Heated arguments were exchanged between Chandna and a senior police official tasked with maintaining law and order at the spot. The entry gate was opened after 45 minutes of talks behind closed doors.
“The Rajasthan Royals management apologized, after which the VIP stand was opened for spectators. Police officials told me that the Rajasthan Royals management wanted to apply for the permission only today (Wednesday). This could not be done as the office time was over,” Chandna told media persons.
During his morning inspection of the stadium on the first day of the home game of Rajasthan Royals, Chandna had also criticised Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA), under Vaibhav Gehlot, over the construction of two VVIP boxes in southwest and northwest regions of the stadium.
Chandna alleged that the Rajasthan Royals management occupied the Sports Council building against the rules and carried out illegal constructions. The sports minister pointed out that according to the MoU between RSSC and RCA, the latter was not allowed to construct anything without RSSC’s permission. The minister also came down heavily on the private security personnel (bouncers) as they were not allowing the office staff to enter the stadium.
