Westerly Winds May Delay Arrival Of Monsoon This Year | Jaipur News

JAIPUR: South-west monsoon is likely to be delayed this year as per Jaipur Met office. Officials said westerly winds activated in the state are likely to affect the onset of monsoon in the coming days. No rainfall activity would be reported in the state from Wednesday.
Radhey Shyam Sharma, director of Jaipur Met office talked about pre-monsoon showers and on how much time is left for the onset of monsoon in the state.
“Whatever we are witnessing now are pre-monsoon showers. Now westerly winds have become active in the state due to which from Wednesday till next 3-4 days the weather would mainly remain dry. No rainfall activity would be reported till June 25. Thus, it appears that monsoon is now a little delayed. We are hopeful for its arrival in the state by June 27,” Sharma said while talking to TOI.
He added that pre-monsoon showers and western disturbances were the reasons behind good rainfall in the state on Sunday and Monday.
It may be recalled that in 2021 south-west monsoon had arrived in the state on June 17 but then it was weak for the next 20 days.
Meanwhile, mild to moderate showers continued in the state on Monday when Phulera (Jaipur) received a rainfall of 82 mm which was highest in the state. Likewise, rainfall varying from 10mm to 82mm was reported at many places in eastern and western Rajasthan.
Due to the pre-monsoon showers weather mainly remained pleasant in the state with mercury dipping up to 10 degrees Celsius on an average at most places in the state.
In its forecast, Jaipur Met office stated that mild showers will continue in some parts of the state. However, weather would mainly remain dry in rest of the state.
