“The people have spoken and so it shall be,” Musk posted in reply to a poll on Saturday on whether to reinstate the Jones account.
Nearly 2 million votes were cast by the time the poll closed, with about 70% voting in favor of Jones’ return.
Who is Alex Jones?
* Alex Jones is a far-right, alt-right radio show host and prominent conspiracy theorist.
* He hosts The Alex Jones Show from Austin, Texas.
* Jones’ most infamous conspiracy theory was about the Sandy Hook school shooting.
* He was ordered last year to pay nearly $1.5 billion in damages to relatives of the victims for falsely claiming they were actors who staged the shooting as part of a government plot to seize Americans’ guns.
* He was permanently suspended from Twitter in 2018, along with the account of his Infowars website, for breaching the platform’s abusive behavior policy and other past violations.
* Apple, Alphabet’s YouTube, and Facebook also took down podcasts and channels from Jones, citing community standards.
* The talk show host filed for bankruptcy protection last year after being asked to pay for damages for his comments on the school shooting.
