Women Empowerment: Be Financially Independent: V-p To Students At Maharani College | Jaipur News

Jaipur: As the chief guest at a discussion on the ‘Role of Women in Nation Building’ held at Maharani College on Monday, Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar while addressing students said, “I have seen women empowerment very closely and my pillars of strength have been both my grandmothers, my mother and my wife, who stood behind me as rocks. It is because of their confidence that I am what I am today.”
Vice-President Dhankhar and his wife Dr Sudesh Dhankhar were welcomed by University of Rajasthan vice-chancellor Rajeev Jain and Nimali Singh, principal of Maharani College.
In his speech, the vice-president laid importance on use of gender-neutral language and terms. He said that with technological penetration, society is changing fast and young women must ensure that they are financially independent.
Taking about President Droupadi Murmu, he said that for the first time India is led by a tribal woman. He said that women holding key posts is important but it’s even more important to know what their background and their struggle is.
“The world cannot develop if you (women) don’t progress, through education and financial independence. The 2019 elections set a record on its own when for the first time 78 women were elected to the Lok Sabha. The result is that many prominent ministries are headed by women. This is the picture of a changing India. Women were the backbone of the research done by ISRO which gave us the successful moon landing,” he said.
“We have seen this country change, entering the Big 5 economies from being part of Fragile 5 economies. By the end of this decade, India will be the third-largest economy in the world and the role of women in this is increasing every day,” said Dhankhar.
The vice-president advised students to be critical, have opinions, “but the nation’s interest should not be above anything,” he said.
