‘The suicide cluster in Kota is a public health emergency’
The suicide cluster in Kota, India calls for a public health response to prevent further suicides. Public health measures should include surveillance to monitor suicidal acts, information sharing between agencies, responsible media reporting, bereavement support, suicide prevention strategies, and monitoring and review. The three-tier Tomorrow Project in Nottingham, UK successfully halted a suicide cluster through self-help groups and clinical support. In India, the National Suicide Prevention Strategy aims to reduce suicides by establishing surveillance systems and mental health clinics. Suicide clusters are uncommon, but prevention strategies are necessary to address the underlying causes.
