JAIPUR: A 57-year-old woman and her 32-year-old grandson died after a bus mowed them on Tonk Road near the Gopalpura flyover Thursday afternoon.
According to the traffic accident police station (East) the victims were identified as Prem Devi and her grandson Devendra Lal.
“The victims were travelling on a bike on Tonk Road. A bus ran over them near the Gopalpura flyover,” a police official said.
The police said that the woman died immediately after the accident, whereas Lal was transported to the SMS trauma ward where he succumbed to injuries.
“Prem Devi lived in the Malviya Nagar area, and Lal was a resident of Tara Nagar in Jagatpura. Lal was riding the bike when the bus hit them after 11.30 am,” the official added.
The locals informed the police control room about the incident following which an ambulance and a team from the accident police station reached the scene.
The police said that the bodies of the two victims were handed over to the families after the mishap.
“They were travelling to Jagatpura when the accident took place,” said a police official. “He (Lal) worked in the government sector and got married about 15 years ago,” said Shubham, a relative of the deceased.
The Jaipur traffic police said that the investigation into the accident is underway as police teams were trying to find a CCTV of the accident.
“The investigation into the case is underway. We are trying to ascertain the role of the bus to see if it was speeding,” an official said.
The stretch of Tonk Road in the state capital where the accident took place is riddled with several bottlenecks. The mishaps are commonplace there mainly because of speeding vehicles.
