Ru V-c Unavailable To Meet Students, Univ’s Ranking Drops During His Time, Say Leaders | Jaipur News

Jaipur: Student leaders from different student unions lashed out at vice-chancellor (VC) of Rajasthan University (RU) Rajeev Jain during a meeting at the university’s senate hall on Thursday afternoon. The meeting was called by the university administration ahead of upcoming student body elections to discuss how the elections can be peacefully conducted.
The student leaders accused the VC of never being available to meet students, discuss their issues, and find solutions to problems on the campus. The students also alleged that the ranking of RU started dropping in major assessments and reports during the regime of VC Rajeev Jain. The main concern that students raised in the meeting was the excessive presence of police in the university campus and despite that students do not feel safe in the campus.
Bharat Bhushan, an ABVP leader present at the meeting said, “Since this VC has joined, the ranking of RU has dropped by six positions in national rankings of higher education institutes. Why are preparations for student body elections being done when examinations for post-graduate courses are not over yet? There is heavy police presence in the campus and students are lathi charged brutally. Till now the admission process has also not been completed and already the university is preparing for elections.”
ABVP representatives said that the university is an educational institute and not a political ground.
After the meeting, a debate competition was also conducted by the dean of students’ welfare between aspiring student leaders for the student body elections this year. In the debate students raised issues like lack of proper sport infrastructure in the university, heavy police presence in the campus but still lapses in security in the university, poor infrastructure in hostels and the university.
Reacting to the allegations, the vice-chancellor said, “The meeting was organised by the dean of students’ welfare to discuss that the admission process for both UG and PG is conducted smoothly and examinations in the university also take place timely. It is the state government which announces the date of student body elections, not the university. We had a different objective, nothing was said about elections. I am always available for students and keep meeting them, take memorandums from them about different problems.”
