Govt Set To Finalise E-rickshaw Colour Codes For 10 Zones Today | Jaipur News

JAIPUR: While the regional transport authority has finalised the colour codes for e-rickshaws plying in 10 zones of the city, officials from the transport department, RTO and municipal corporation will meet on Friday to finalise the proposal.
Officials said that after the proposal is finalised, it will be sent to the transport minister for final approval before being implemented.
Virendra Singh, regional transport officer of Jaipur said, “We have decided 10 different zones for the city where e-rickshaws will be allowed and a meeting will be held on Friday regarding this. The meeting was to be conducted on Thursday, but it was postponed. The zones had been decided two months ago but there were some objections from the stakeholders so it was being revised. Now, once the proposal is discussed by all the stakeholder it will be sent to the higher authorities for final approval from the transport minister after which it will be implemented in the city.”
The e-rickshaws will be coloured as sky blue, red, orange, yellow, brown, green, grey, pink, maroon, blue depending on zones of either JMC-Greater or JMC-Heritage. The number of e-rickshaws plying on city roads has increased so much that there is no definite count of them. The market roads of Ramganj, Manak Chowk, Ghat Gate and Badi Chaupar every day witness a swarm of e-rickshaws piling up on roads, forcing the traffic to move at a snail’s pace.
Officials said that around 30,000 e-rickshaws are registered in Jaipur city, while 27,000 are plying on the roads. Officials said that around 3,000 e-rickshaws are either not functional or have been discarded but remain registered. Earlier police have said that several people own multiple e-rickshaws and sublet them to drivers for a monthly fee. One official suggested that e-rickshaws should be allowed to ply only in zones earmarked for them.
