Jaisalmer: A police sub-inspector (SI) and an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) were suspended on Wednesday for assaulting medical workers in Ramdevra after doctors and nursing staff of Ramdevra hospital and PHC went on strike and traders at the Ramdevra market closed their shops in protest against police personnel slapping the Ramdevra hospital medical in-charge and misbehaving with the medical team accompanying him.
Announcing the suspension of SI Surjanram and ASI Devi Singh, additional superintendent of police Gopal Singh Bhati told the media on Wednesday evening that information about the alleged actions of the police personnel was conveyed to higher officials and the Jaisalmer district superintendent of police issued the orders for their suspension.
Ramdevra hospital medical in-charge Dr Bhawani Singh said that he was going to a medical checkpost set up inside the Ramdevra temple when SI Surjanram and ASI Devi Singh stopped him from entering the temple. He said he showed his ID card but despite that SI Surjaram in front of the medical team slapped him and misbehaved with his medical team.
In protest, doctors closed the six medical checkposts set up in Ramdevra for the upcoming fair and shouted slogans against the police personnel.
Additional SP Bhati and Ramdevra station in-charge Khammaram reached spot and tried to pacify the doctors but they remained adamant in demanding suspension of the police personnel. The Ramdevra Vyapar Sangh in support of the doctors closed down the market.
