10l Mobile Connections In Raj Scrapped To Check Cyberfraud | Jaipur News
JAIPUR: Nearly 9.9 lakh mobile connections that were either not being used or were issued on fake IDs have been disconnected in the state.
The department of telecommunication is using Artificial Intelligence (AI) for identifying such numbers though online portal ASTR (Artificial Intelligence and Facial Recognition powered Solution for Telecom SIM Subscriber Verification) and Telecom Analytics for Fraud Management and Consumer Protection (TAFCOP).
“ASTR is being used for identifying mobile connections obtained using fake or forged documents which could be used for cyber-frauds,” said Sidharth Pokharna, senior deputy director general, department of telecommunications, Rajasthan.
To curb the menace, the Department of Telecom has developed AI powered tool—ASTR—to identify SIMs issued using fraudulent and forged documents. ASTR uses various techniques of facial recognition and data analytics. In Mewat area, ASTR was used to block 12,177 such mobile connections. Besides, 18,000 other connections have also been blocked using ASTR.
The details of disconnected numbers have been shared with banks, payment wallets and social media platforms for disengaging these numbers with their accounts.
TAFCOP alllows a user to check the number of mobile connections taken in their name using paper-based documents. User enters her mobile number on the portal and authenticates using OTP.
