Always-on display may be coming to iPhone 14 Pro, hints iOS 16 code

NEW DELHI: Apple announced the latest version of its operating system — iOS 16 at its annual developer conference WWDC 2022. With iOS 16 coming later this year, the iPhone users will be able to experience some new and interesting features like all-new LockScreen, iCloud Shared Photo Library, updates to Messages, Mail and more. Now a new rumour related to the new OS version of Apple has surfaced online.
According to a report by 9to5Mac, iOS 16 is likely to bring an always-on lockscreen to the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. The publication revealed that this upcoming feature is hinted at in the code of iOS 16 which the company released recently.
As per the code found by 9to5Mac, there are three frameworks related to the backlight management of the iPhone’s display. These frameworks are used by different components of iOS, including the Lock Screen. Along with this, the report also suggests that there have been multiple references to an always-on display within the Springboard, which manages the Lock Screen and home screen of iPhone.
The report further adds that there have been hidden flags within the iOS 16 that can be used by Apple engineers to enable the always-on capability. The engineers can also turn on this functionality even for the unsupported devices. This means that the Apple engineers can also test the always-on display feature on the iPhone 13 Pro before bringing it to the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro.
For those unaware, the developer preview of iOS 16 is available to Apple Developer Program members at developer.apple.com starting today, and a public beta will be available to iOS users next month at beta.apple.com. New software features will be available this fall as a free software update for iPhone 8 and later. For more information, visit iOS 16. Features are subject to change. Some features may not be available in all regions or all languages.
