16-yr-old girl from MP, preparing for NEET in Kota, delivers baby | Jaipur News
Kota: In a shocking incident, a 16-year-old girl preparing for the NEET examination in Kota, gave birth to a baby girl on Monday.
She hails from Guna in Madhya Pradesh and was preparing for the medical examination for the past two months while residing in a hostel in the Landmark City area of Kota.
She was rushed to Jay Kay Lon hospital in Kota early Monday morning after experiencing labour pains.
Dr Bharti Saxena, the head of the gynaecology department at Jay Kay Lon hospital, revealed that upon examination, it was discovered that the girl was eight-and-a-half months pregnant. She was immediately taken to the labour room, where she delivered a healthy baby girl weighing 2.30kg around 8:30am on Monday.
Although the newborn required phototherapy, both mother and child were in good health. The doctors anticipated their discharge on Wednesday, although the mother had experienced minor complications related to her blood pressure.
The matter came to light on Tuesday morning. Due to the delicate nature of the situation and the girl being a minor, authorities decided to keep the incident confidential until the necessary legal formalities were completed. Initially, the parents of the minor mother were unwilling to hand over the newborn to the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) for protection. However, after extensive counselling by the CWC members, the parents agreed to transfer custody of the newborn to the CWC on Tuesday.
Kaniz Fatima, the chairperson of CWC in Kota, stated that the CWC was informed about the situation by the doctors at Jay Kay Lon Hospital around 9am on Monday. The CWC members promptly arrived at the hospital and assessed the situation. Although the minor girl’s parents initially resisted handing over the baby to the CWC, they eventually relented after multiple rounds of counselling and completion of the necessary procedures for the newborn’s protection in a child shelter home.
Fatima further revealed that since the minor girl had only arrived in Kota two months ago and was found to be eight-and-a-half months pregnant, it was highly likely that she had been sexually exploited in her hometown.
However, her parents were reluctant to file a report on the matter. On Tuesday, the minor girl, though not in a condition to speak initially, expressed her remorse for her actions and pleaded to continue her NEET studies in Kota.
DSP Shankar Lal, the circle officer of Kunhari police station area, stated that due to the minor mother’s healthy physical condition, neither the people in her hostel nor the institute in Kota were able to detect her pregnancy. The minor girl’s mother had accompanied her to the hostel in Kota on Sunday when she began experiencing stomach pain.
The following morning she was rushed to the hospital. So far, the minor girl’s parents have not filed a report with the police, indicating their desire to avoid legal action. However, the Guna police in Madhya Pradesh has been informed of the situation.
