20 Pakistani Hindu migrants given Indian citizenship certificates | Jaipur News
JAISALMER: Certificates of Indian citizenship were on Wednesday given to 20 Pakistani Hindu migrants who had moved to India due to religious persecution and atrocities on Hindus in Pakistan more than a decade and a half ago.
District collector Tina Dabi distributed the citizenship certificates to the migrants, many of them at advanced ages. The families of the migrants were full of joy after getting the certificates and celebrated the moment by distributing sweets. They thanked Dabi, saying that she had made efforts to remove obstacles on the way of the migrants being granted Indian citizenship.
Umar Jati, 75, who came to India from Pakistan in 2005 and has since been living in Jaisalmer, said he was very happy to get Indian citizenship at the last stage of his life. His 40-year-old son Khemu also got Indian citizenship along with him.
Nasiba Bibi, who came to India from Pakistan in 2013 and has been living in Bhil township of Jaisalmer city, was full of joy. She expressed gratitude to the government. Dhanu, 55, and his wife Shakuntala were also elated to get Indian citizenship a decade after leaving Pakistan for India. “It is a great day for these displaced Hindu migrantsp,” said Hindu Singh Sodha, president of Frontier Lok Sangathan, an organization that help migrants from Pakistan.
